According to the AMA's Physician Recognition Award Information booklet, Category 2 credit may be earned for activities physicians have undertaken on their own that should be beneficial to their practice. Credit claimed should be commensurate with the actual time spent on an activity. Following is a list of some self-designated activities which may be reported for category 2 credit:
- Consultations with peers and experts;
- Medical research and study online;
- Using non-designated enduring materials;
- Teaching other health professionals; and,
- Reading authoritative medical literature.
By registering below, you will receive a Patient Safety Advisory each quarter by email, which a physician may self-designate as category 2 credit. These advisories are produced by Pennsylvania's Patient Safety Authority (PSA) and are being provided to you by 3PSC in cooperation with the PSA. The PSA is an independent state agency established by Act 13 of 2002. Some examples of patient safety advisories follow:
PSA Patient Safety Advisory Vol. 2, No. 3 September 2005
